She was friendly and affectionate....even when she was dressed up in pink.

She liked to lay in the sun after chasing squirrels and other small rodents.

And she didn't mind posing for pictures.

About 3 weeks ago she suddenly stopped eating her kibble. I thought that her Science Diet food was tainted...and I still sort of suspect a problem with her food because she went from acting like a puppy to a lethargic geriatric dog literally overnight.
The vet couldn't find anything wrong and suggested blood test but since she was sick one day and seemingly well the next I put the tests off.
I took Stevie with me to Orange County last weekend for the 4th of July but she just didn't have much energy. So Monday my daughter took her back to the vet for blood tests and xrays and she was diagnosed with tumors on her spleen and lungs. We were told that she didn't have much time left and the vet expected us to leave her at the clinic to be put down.

Well, of course we couldn't do that. We took her home by way of her favorite place to hunt squirrels, rabbits and other small rodents and she was alert and excited and happy, as though there was nothing was wrong. Since Monday we have fed her tri-tip and rib eye and haagen dazs vanilla ice cream and let her rest on the living room couch.
Today she took her last breath at home in the arms of my daughter, just a minute or two before I got home.
I'm glad that she died at home with love.

I'm sorry for the loss of your beloved furry friend. I'm sure that she knew how much she was loved as she made her transition.
I´m so sorry too for your loss, but I´m happy that you took her home for her last days. What a wonderful life she had with you!
Thank you Pseu and Metscan.
It's just awful and it doesn't get any easier. We are so fortunate to have our pets in our lives. I'll be thinking about you. I know how hard it is.
I'm so sorry for your loss. Her passing could hardly have been more peaceful though. I'm happy for you that you had those moments.
OMG - Stevie died at home. It's got
to be tough on both of you. She tried so hard on the weekend.
You were a great mom to her.
Love, Maman
Thank you Jill and Wendy for your kind words. We are all so lucky to have had the love of our dogs in our lives. It's just so hard to open the door and not have her running up to me to give me a kiss.
Maman, she was doing so well on Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday she just got progressively worse, but I'm glad that she died at home and in Stephanie's arms and not at the cold and horrible vet's office.
I'm so sad that I missed being with her for her last minutes but she is in puppy heaven now.
Oh,Belle, I am so terribly sorry. I ache for you. The loss of someone who gives you unconditional love and that you are able to give the same to is so very hard. My most sincere condolences to you and all who love Stevie.
