I thought that Nordstorm was where you went to shop for Tahari and Calvin Klein not Proenza Schouler and Balmain.
Well anyhoo the new designer catalog is out there and I don't mean in terms of design.
Take this Chanel coat, for example
Tweed coat with faux-fur trim, acrylic/cotton $8,555
OK, so add sales tax and you are north of $9,000 for a faux-fur coat
and let's not forget the matching bag
Once again, add sales tax and this faux-fur clutch is north of $3,000
Who would pay these prices...no really I want to know....who?
My world is all about intrinsic value not ephemeral fashion meaning I break things down into the cost of the materials, how much did it cost to manufacture, etc.
and let's just say that I don't see $9,000 worth of intrinsic value in this coat.

I am with you, I have stopped buying some ridiculous Chanel pieces. My sales try to push an apron looking dress on me for close to 3K, I sometimes wonder what these designers are thinking....
Why the faux? Now if the fur were real ( not rabbit ), I´d understand the desire for these, were one loaded. But faux, no no.
I just think of the quote from 'Working Girl' $10,000 Dollars and its not even leather!
And to think I thought Ferragamo had gone to pot with the $1000 booties with the synthetic lining; this is ridiculous.

I think you are right to question the value in terms of cost of materials, design, production etc and it really doesn't seem to add up! There is a value to Chanel, the quality of cloth and construction will be impeccable but the mark up seems a tad too high.
Yikes. Both pieces would probably look much better without the faux fur anyway, but those prices...gah.
I love Chanel and these pieces are gorgeous.. but the price!! I just couldn't xx
