Every so often when I consider feeling sorry for myself because I don't have a architecturally modernist house in the hills above Santa Barbara I remind myself that living in the hills in Southern California can be like living on the edge of a volcano.

Oy, you couldn't pay me to live in the hills around here. There are some advantages to being a flatlander.
This is horrible. I don't think I could get over it. Losing everything. It's nice to live somewhere that there are no natural disasters.
