Concentration Camp Chic

Linda Grant from The Thoughtful Dresser showed this photo on her blog.
So this is what the big business fashion industry is telling us we should look like. I can only describe this as concentration camp - starvation chic.
Seriously, what man wouldn't want to wrap his arms around this luscious and lovely lady.

How is someone not dialing 911 WHILST she is still on the catwalk? Seriously, if I were sitting there watching that, I'd be wondering why nobody's doing anything! I'd be running up on stage to escort her to where she could get some help! What is wrong with people?!

What is wrong with the fashion industry, this girl looks like a freaking skeleton with skin. Poor girl. This is not what beauty is. There are many forms of beauty, this is definitely not one of them. Dear God!

Speaking as a psychotherapist working with anorexics it seems a tragic indictment of our society that this is deemed acceptable by so many, let alone attractive. The reality is anorexics die. Anorexia is a mental illness in which perception of body image is seriously screwed! Anorexia has has the highest mortality rate of any mental pathology there is. The fashion industry really needs to look at its ethics. Young impressionable women really don't need these images as something to aspire to.
