Rings and Things

Well, at long last Kate Middleton finally got her man.
Sadly for her, she also got Princess Diana's sapphire engagement ring...
a symbol of a royally unhappy marriage.
I suppose that Miss Middleton had no say in the matter.
They do look like a genuinely happy couple and I hope that their marriage is a happy one.

Larry Graff has been busy with buying
Lucky Larry bought the Harry Winston 24.78 carat diamond
aka the big pink
for $46 million at Sotheby's Geneva auction
It was a bargain in my opinion...compared to that silly imperial vase.

Now known as the Graff Diamond
Of course!

Belle I just knew you were going to do a post about 'the Diana ring'. When I first heard this I thought Oh no, don't think I like the idea of that at all but when William explained I warmed to the idea. I hope it brings them more happiness than it did Diana and Charles, still it would have been nice for Kate to help choose her own ring.

I always thought that was such a frumpy ring, even hubs said last night "Don't you think that's a horrible engagement ring? I was amazed, he never comments on anything like that. To me it's a dowager's ring.

Dash: Considering how important a woman's wedding jewelry is, and that the woman is going to wear it everyday for the rest of her life, I think that she should have an opinion in the style.
Still, I of all people appreciate a piece that has been handed down by the family. It's just that to me, this ring symbolized an unhappy marriage.
Tabs: I can appreciate untraditional engagement rings but this wouldn't have been my choice either.

Maybe she'll get a new ring for the wedding? Even my fiance is considering that I may get multiple rings, all that have something in common (sapphires, 'cause that's our thing) and I can wear whichever I want whenever I want. We aren't really sticking to strict tradition.

Or maybe she'll have to make that sacrifice, to marry the prince of England. :D

Like Dash, I was just waiting for a post on both rings! I guess the ring means a lot to William, and I hope that it is appreciated for all the right reasons. As to the Graff diamond, much better value than the vase. If you drop it, it is not going to break

Just so typical, to focus on the ring. :)

I loved this ring back in 1982(?) when Diana wore it first (and I was a teenager). I still like it, though it seems more of a dinner ring than an engagement piece now--it's so large!

I definitely don't like the idea. I'm pretty picky and certainly chose my own wedding ring. However if I had the kind of money they do, I suppose I could just cheer myself up by purchasing some other form of gorgeous jewelry to make up for it... or some designer bags, a vacation etc. etc... probably shouldn't be the end of the world.

Kate wouldn't have much say but hey she now has the pick of the crown jewels to wear on her big day! So no complaints I guess. I did love her dress that went with the ring and really made her eyes look stunning. Dare I mention QVC UK have sold out of their repro version of the ring already!

At first I thought it was lovely that she had Diana's ring but as the evening wore on, I wasn't sure, had it have been me, that I would of wanted it. I think William wanted her to have it as it is so special to him and shows how much he loved and adored his mother. If we look at it like that, it sits a bit easier. x
