Kenya - From Happy Valley Hijinks to Laid Back Lamu

I was chatting with a European client this week about alternative locations to raise a family, away from the high costs and social nonsense that permeates Los Angeles.  He suggested Kenya.

And I can understand why.
White sand beaches, laid back lifestyle, and it's got to be cheaper than the Hollywood Hills.
But as for social nonsense.  Kenya has had it's share of it with the Happy Valley Set.
and

And I'm guessing that even laid back, low key, Lamu Island has a certain amount of celebrity silliness.
I probably wouldn't want to live an expat life there, but it would be nice for a holiday.
If you were going to escape from your current life, where would you go?

Mmm that beach looks very tempting. living in the countryside is lovely but it does have it's downsides, not a lot going on! I would not mind doing a house-swap for a month, I quite fancy an elegant apartment on a side street somewhere like Verona or Sienna.

I've been thinking about this a lot recently (in no particular order):

High in the forested mountains of Bavaria or Austria.

Cape Town, South Africa.

The Bahamas.

Remote corner of British Columbia.

A little island off the coast of Mozambique or the Seychelles.

Australia.

Baja California Sur, Mexico.

A flat in Buenos Aires or a ranch in Argentina or Uruguay.

Tahiti.

A villa in Brazil.

Initially, my mind blurted out The Seychelles. But who really knows once you start factoring in everything. Somewhere with a beach, that's for sure.

Dash, I think that I could do a villa in the Italian countryside, but a flat in Verona or Sienna would be claustrophobic for me.
LBF: I'm with you on all of those places. Perhaps a ranch in Argentina (for my fantasy horses and vineyard) and a house (villa?) on Lake Como or one of the Italian or Swiss lakes.
Jill: Yes, a beach or beach access would be desirable.

Dear Belle, I have The Bolter which I haven't read yet, I must get The Temptress. I loved White Mischief and the costumes were fabulous. I keep mentioning Kenya to The Actor, he was in South Africa filming this year and loved it. Hope you're good xx
