A Holiday Weekend With A Wonderful Wedding

Yesterday,  a sunny Saturday afternoon was the perfect day to attend a small but very pretty wedding at an old line Protestant church in Pasadena.  As the guest of a guest, not personally acquainted with the families involved, I was able to concentrate more on the details than on the people...the afternoon sunlight streaming in through the stained glass windows, the flowers, the music.  But I couldn't help but being wowed by the bride, a true California blond, she was absolutely beautiful....but really, aren't all brides gorgeous?
I loved the flower arrangements of roses, peonies and orchids in shades of soft pastel pink and green.

The wedding party was made up entirely of the nieces and nephews of the bride and groom, all young children except the 16 year old niece who was the maid of honor.  The young boys wore black tuxedos and the young girls wore pretty pastel pink dresses with light celery green sashes. So adorable.
It has been so long since I have been to a wedding that wasn't a second marriage that I haven't really kept up with what is de rigueur.  Apparently the tossing of rice is out and bubbles are in....who knew.
The ceremony was traditional and lovely, as was the cocktail reception and dinner at a nearby country club.

As usual I wore something monochromatic and simple, a linen suit in a metallic wheat color, if that description makes any sense at all, with simple kitten heeled shoes and a Ferragamo lizard skin clutch, from way in the day.

The jewelry...South Sea pearls, of course, and a vintage Piaget diamond watch.

So now that I've been reminded of how wonderful traditional weddings are, I can get start to get serious about plotting my own children's marriages....because isn't that what meddling mothers do?
Have a great 4th of July!

How dreamy -- both the ceremony, the gorgeous flowers, and your divine outfit. I'm glad you had a joyful event to attend after the heartbreaking loss you've endured with your stepson. My sympathies to you. Hang in there.

What a lovely, ladylike outfit you wore, and so perfect for a Pasadena (first) wedding. Yesterday in the small country Episcopal church that I (sometimes) attend, there were several women in the congregation wearing skimpy tank tops, which I thought was inappropriate to say the least. Several weeks ago, while visiting the Duomo in Siena, I noticed that tourists wearing tank tops were required to cover themselves with (disposable) capes made out of paper. It's nice to see that some people, such as you, understand that it is preferable to dress appropriately (and in your case beautifully)! Reggie

Your outfit was perfect, I wish I´d see you wearing it. Last summer I attended one wedding, where I just slightly had met the groom earlier. It was interesting to watch people, not having had to do/ stress about anything, only to enjoy the excitement, the good food, the happiness of the married couple.

What an elegant look Miss BHB, simply the epitome of timeless elegance. The suit is stunning and the jewelry just beautiful. (And you know we are loving those Pink and Green flowers!)

Sending you a smile,

Thank you Luxe. This is certainly a week of extremes between a birthday, a wedding, a party and a funeral.

Reggie, I guess it is because of my age but I can not help but be annoyed when I see inappropriately attired men, women and children at church. When did it become OK to wear t-shirts or shorts to church? Jesus may love us all...but he wants us to dress up for church!

Met yes...it's so nice to be a guest at a lovely event like a wedding and to not be all caught up in the whole social scene.

Preppy, yes I did think of you when I saw the pink and green motif in the flowers, ribbons and dresses.

I love the cool classic Grace Kelly connotations that your outfit exudes, the pearls are perfect.

Confession: I can't bear going to weddings, they last way to long!
