Could this be the beginning of the end for oversized handbags and sky high heels?
I can only hope so

At least the heels....
The platform+extra high heels+wedges I can well live without. But I do want a bag in proportion to my height, or else I won´t carry one at all.
Too funny, I was JUST looking at this a few minutes ago and thinking of you and all of the lovely Beladora mid-century pieces!
Interesting. When I see someone refer to 'mid-century' I think immediately of the 1650s or 1750s before all that Enlightenment/French Revolution bloodiness.
It's amusing to watch Americans fall for 1950s schtick, which I think has been engineered in large part by the popularity of the televisual comedy 'Mad Men' on HOB.
Let's hope this is the beginning of the beginning for women's dresses. I never recovered from the shock of learning, as a young tradlet in the late 1970s, that girls could wear trousers. Abomination! ;)
Noooooo! I love oversized handbags and sky high heels, of course I don't have to wear the latter. I will say that this ladylike look is growing on me though. Thanks mostly to Louis Vuitton's fall collection.
Hey, I stumbled across this, this morning while searching for some mid-century inspiration.
My blog is entitled same. http://makeminemid-century.blogspot.com/
Thank you for the tip-off re Vogue. Credit where credit's due.
I hope so, too. I don't care for huge, unstructured bags -- but as long as people are content to wear sloppy clothes in public, I doubt we'll see a return to the structured bag.
LPC: I still have some of my old stuart weitzman kitten hills from 8 years ago. I can't wait to wear them again this fall.
Met: Yes, it is hard to live a modern life with a small handbag. There is an odd comfort in knowing that your bag will hold everything.
Pseu: As ususal, I'm going to make it my mission this fall to bring back the brooch...along with pearls. I'm tempted to goal all Jean Kilpatrick this fall with wearing the biggest, boldest brooches that I can get my hands on!
Trad: I have a closet full of dresses and little lady-like suits, but when I go to work or out to social functions, I'm usually the only woman dressed this way. Yesterday I was at a major swanky wine tasting-garden party at a beautiful Bel Air estate. What were the well bred well heeled ladies wearing? Pant suits. Oh the horror.
Michael: Yes, the LV collection is wonderful. I can only hope that the hourglass silhouette look will spread to more collections.
Mid-Century: Thank you for stopping by BHB and leaving a comment! I'm looking forward to perusing your Mid-Century blog.
Luxe: You are totally correct. When the overall look is unstructured and sloppy, a little structured lady-like bag won't be appropriate.
Hope so too - even though pinched in waists and high hair can be curiously demanding, the 'far from heaven' look is so ladylike. Not all bags were small either...
I ma not great with Kitten heels .. but then I am a little bored of the pain of five inch heels.. i love this era of bags/purses though and will enjoy using them, although on a day to day basis I still see me with a huge one xx
I really enjoyed that editorial. I went through the entire magazine on Friday, and it was the first mid-summer Vogue that has ever really jolted me out of my summer blahs. N.V. and E.M. were brilliant in this play on mid-century films.
I am fond of both sky high heels and the kitten heels; both have their places in my wardrobe. Must pop out and purchase this vogue magazine. Oh, and I adore skirts. I quite like the cover of the magazine above;-)
This is great. I love mid-century whether it's in clothing, home decorating, etc. Have a fantastic week.
I saw that in Vogue and I was thinking, "Finally, an end to over sized purses matched with twig like women!"
