Appropriate Office Attire - Dressing Up and Down

What is it with Halloween anyway?
It has always been my least favorite holiday
particularly because girls who are over 12 years of age
seem to wait all year long to revel in those slutty costumes
You know what I mean
slutty nurse, slutty french maid, slutty angel, slutty cat, slutty pirate...
Yeah, you've all seen The Real Meaning of Halloween video from the movie Mean Girls

But the young ladies in the office want to have some fun today
and celebrate by dressing up in something costume-y for work today
Luckily, they are coming up with clever rather than slutty costumes

Miss de Ville suggested that I dress up today like a "trophy wife"
I think that she meant for me to try and pull off something like this outfit
from The Sartorialist in Paris
big earrings, big rings, status bag, high heeled sandals
and maybe top it off with a fur coat.

But after a long week of work on a Friday with no clients or meetings
my style leans much more toward the casual
Something like this outfit from The Sartorialist in Milano
flat shoes, flowy skirt, casual jewelry
but leave the bike at home.

It's for kids.

...and slutty nurses.

When I worked, I would look at every person(adult) and wonder if it was their Halloween costume or their real clothes.

I admit...I love Halloween. It's always been my favorite. Well, New Year's Eve runs a close second...or maybe they tie. I do NOT like the fact that most women use it as an excuse to dress like a stripper...be it a nurse, cop, pirate...etc. My favorite costume was back when Married with Children was on TV and I dressed up like Peg Bundy. Eventually I want to have a huge Halloween party. Right now, I leave it to New Year's Eve.

I don't like it either. I'm always astounded at the slutty women costumes. I always see the catholic school girl outfit, french maid, nurse with the low cut blouse but my favorite was one woman who came to work wearing the Felicity Shagwell costume from Austin Powers. Way to brand yourself.

Actually, I don't mind costumes when they are clever. The Peg Bundy idea is hysterical but Felicy Shagwell is just another form of the slutty genre.

I love it, but don't really enjoy dressing up in costume anymore (except for a couple of years ago when I did Devil Wears Prada...simple black outfit with a make-believe Prada bag and devil horns.) I enjoy decorating, carving pumpkins and handing out candy to the 300-350 kids who show up each year.
