Bad Behavior - Would You Buy Your Fashion From A Fascist?

No, I just can't let this one go.
John Galliano and his racist rants
Not once, but twice from Le Perle in Paris
It's one thing to be a flamboyant freak with a flair for fashion

It's another thing to be drunk in public in a cafe spouting anti-semitic remarks
and being filmed making such remarks
and as we all know
in vino veritas

Would you buy clothes designed by this man?
No I didn't think so
and neither did Bernard Arnault.
LVMH has suspended Galliano from Dior.

Partly because I loved the historical references and the theatrics,
I always looked forward to seeing what Galliano brought to the runway.
Sadly no longer.
Even if he gets reinstated as the creative director at Dior (not likely) or taken on by some other atelier
I won't be able to appreciate his work
Sorry but no fashion from a fascist for me.

And  Kate at Make Do Style has more to say on the matter
go read her post.

I do so aggree with you! Of all the things that Mr. Galiano is love him or hate him, I never thought he would be a racist! Him of all people! As you say cannot look at his work in the same light now.

How revolting.

Is he an alcoholic? Who behaves like this?

I love John but I was totally shocked when I got a phone call on Friday morning. I have no idea what he was doing out so drunk, especially when he has a show in a weeks time and his comments were appalling.

Hope you have a good week xx

When I read anything about him now I cannot comprehend he was who he was. Now he is nothing.

No talent gives anyone the right to be so spiteful and damning. Yuk!

It's unfortunate that so many creative geniuses throughout history have been utter miscreants in their personal lives. It sometimes makes it difficult to separate the artist from the art.

At first, when news broke, I gave him the benefit of the doubt. After viewing the video, I'm saddened beyond belief that such a creative talent and man I have admired and supported could say such things. He clearly needs help, and I hope he gets it.

It was a real slip of the mask brought on by who knows what but I would still buy his clothes, I can easily separate the individual from the product in the same way that my Jewish friends listen to Wagner

Awful ... And no excuse possible. I'm glad the reaction seems to be fairly unanimous.

Thank you everyone for you comments.

I find the issue of Galliano to be a fashion/moral dilemma.
And I'm interested in Tabitha's comment.

I love the work of Galliano for Dior, I really do. But if offered a chance (ie. the $$$$) to buy it, would I? Could I remove the man from the art?

It's one thing to be able to listen to Wagner, which I do, and to appreciate his music without agreeing with his racial ideas.
It's another thing to listen to an educated, wealthy, creative genuis slur remarks about who should have been gassed, post-holocaust.

I would (given the $$$$) buy Dior vintage or pre-owned, where he doesn't participate in the profit.
What I wouldn't do is purchase his designs where my hard earned cash goes directly into his profit.
I would do nothing to add to the quality of his life...he's been living the good life long enough and has no appreciation of many of the people who backed him so that he could become the creative director of Dior.
