When Wendy B Gives Us The Why

Marie Antoinette Ring by Wendy Brandes

Wendy B has brought us another well written and educational post on why fine jewelry, particularly intricately designed American made jewelry, like Wendy's, is expensive.

I applaud Wendy for creating her own fine jewelry line, which isn't easy to do, and for choosing to have her jewelry manufactured in America. Good for her for choosing American expertise and craftsmanship and not outsourcing the manufacturing process to Asia.

Thanks for the link love...just try not to hate me if/when I get that Target (INSERT ANY OTHER CHAIN STORE HERE) contract that's going to require me to outsource! I'd love to say I will someday make a living out of doing the beautiful handmade pieces in NYC but realistically, I'm going to need the other thing to stay in business at all. That's what it takes these days, I'm sad to say.

Wendy, I would love it if you would get a great deal with Target or other retail chain. I am not against manufacturing overseas when you are producing this type of product. But there is a difference between handcrafted and mass produced merchandise...and the price charged reflects this difference.

There is a difference in quality between a crafted item and a mass produced item. And that clearly justifies the price tag. But in order to stay in business one needs to diversify. I say WendyB is finding a balance with also offering the tiny wolf as an outsourced lower priced piece.

Tampa, isn't cool the way that the stones are set on the side of the shank?
Make Do, we all wish to own this ring!
Ani, yes indeed.
K.Peach,

Sher, Exactly. There is a place for high end and mass produced jewelry.
I'm just happy that she clarified why it is that high end jewelry costs more mass produced jewelry.

Too true. Cost of a piece isn't just about materials. There are many factors.
